Community empowerment is an effort to enhance local capacities by identifying and utilizing community-based potential. One organization actively engaged in this process is the Saemaul Globalization Foundation Indonesia (YGSI). This study aims to examine the development process of community empowerment initiatives by YGSI through training in oyster mushroom and crispy mushroom cultivation in Kapanewon Nanggulan, and to explore how social capital is fostered throughout the program. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that YGSI promotes inclusivity and equality by involving participants from diverse backgrounds, while community members demonstrated strong enthusiasm in joining the training. The program has successfully encouraged some participants to initiate independent mushroom cultivation at home, although the outcomes are not yet widespread. Moreover, the training contributes to the development of social capital among both participants and stakeholders. Social capital evolves through the formation of social networks, which further develop into trust and shared values. This growth enables participants to form collaborative communities and build partnerships with other actors and institutions sharing similar networks, knowledge, and experience. Overall, the YGSI empowerment model not only enhances practical skills but also strengthens social cohesion within the target community.
Michael Paulus Montolalu

https://ojs.uajy.ac.id/index.php/jas/article/view/11154

The ongoing conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural use has led to a significant decline in available farmland. Urban farming emerges as a viable solution to mitigate this issue and contribute to food security in densely populated urban areas. In the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), a local initiative by the Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/KWT) has adopted urban farming practices within compact residential neighborhoods. This study focuses on KWT Srikandi Mrican, located in Padukuhan Mrican, Sleman Regency, and aims to explore the empowerment strategies employed by the group’s leadership in facilitating urban farming among its members. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis is guided by the concepts of empowerment, women farmers groups, and urban agriculture. The findings reveal five key empowerment processes: initiating member engagement through meetings and awareness-building; planning collective activities; providing training to enhance members’ skills; teaching effective seedling techniques; and conducting regular monitoring and evaluation. These steps collectively support the successful implementation of urban farming within the community.
Noveryanti Malem Barus

https://ojs.uajy.ac.id/index.php/jas/article/view/11151

Employee behavior within an organization is shaped by its adopted and internalized values or culture. Organizational socialization is a structured process designed to equip new members with an understanding of these values, thereby reinforcing a strong organizational culture capable of addressing internal challenges. This study explores the meaning of the organizational value "KASIH" at Charitas Hospital Belitang and examines how the hospital management socializes this value to new employees. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The study is grounded in organizational culture and socialization concepts. Findings reveal that "KASIH" represents five core values: Communicative, Reliable, Synergistic, Innovative, and Warm. These values are deeply embedded in the daily practices of all hospital staff. Management supports the integration of these values by organizing activities aligned with "KASIH", ensuring that employees embody them in their duties and services. Socialization begins with the preparation of learning materials, followed by implementation through General and Special Employee Orientation Weeks (POK). Participation in these sessions is mandatory for all staff. Following orientation, employees undergo a process of adaptation to internalize and apply the "KASIH" values in their work. This structured approach ensures that "KASIH" not only becomes a guiding principle for individual conduct but also contributes to achieving the hospital’s organizational goals.
Monica Gita Prastiwi
