The Preservation of Yogyakarta-Style Classical Dance at the Pamulangan Beksa Sasminta Mardawa Foundation Dance Studio

In the era of modernization and digitalization, traditional arts such as Yogyakarta-style classical dance face serious challenges due to shifting cultural values and declining interest of the younger generation, so adaptive preservation efforts are needed without eliminating the noble values contained therein. This study aims to determine how the owner and dance teacher at the Yayasan Pamulangan Beksa Sasminta Mardawa (YPBSM) Dance Studio preserve Yogyakarta-style classical dance amidst modernization and digitalization. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through semi-structured interviews, semi-participatory observation, and documentation. The concepts used are the concepts of preservation, modernization and digitalization. The results of the study show that the preservation activities carried out by the owner and dance teacher of the YPSBM Dance Studio are (1) fostering a love for Yogyakarta style classical dance culture, (2) teaching the philosophical values of Yogyakarta style classical dance to students, (3) firmly maintaining the rules, (4) explaining the synopsis of Yogyakarta style classical dance to students, (5) carrying out adaptation and innovation, (6) developing floor patterns, (7) utilizing IT and digital media, and (8) carrying out regeneration through families and communities.
