Population density in urban areas complicates efforts to provide its citizens with the food needed. The existence of urban farmer groups plays an essential role in asset management to support the creation of food self-sufficiency. This paper discusses the sustainable livelihoods approach applied by farmer groups in urban farming practices in Kampung Ledhok Timoho Yogyakarta. This research aims to find out: 1) livelihood assets used by farmer groups in running urban farming, 2) farmer groups strategies to achieve sustainable livelihoods through urban farming, and 3) the the benefits of urban farming for sustainable livelihoods of farmer groups in Kampung Ledhok Timoho Yogyakarta. The research in this paper uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results show that farmer groups in Kampung Ledhok Timoho relies on five types of livelihood assets (human, natural, physical, financial, and social) to carry out urban farming practices. The farmer groups applies three types of strategies (survival, consolidation, and accumulation) to maintain and develop livelihoods through urban farming practices. These strategies provide evidence of sustainable livelihood improvement by providing farmer groups with environmental, economic, and social benefits.
