Abstract: In the National Strategy Area Plan of Borobudur 2007, Pramudya Wardani corridor is determined as as trading area development zone in which all activities, including commercial activities, is located Borobudur. As a buffer zone area of Candi Borobudur, this area will reduce negative activity of Borobudur conservation plan. Nevertheless, through the development process the corridor is still lack of activities. Therefore it needs to be studied to get an idea of the influence physical on activities, factors affecting the physical quality improvement, and the Urban Design Guidelines that can meet. Physical quality of the street space is an element of setting, that supports the public space in attracting people to come and play a long that street space. This study uses qualitative rationalistic method is a method, focuses onto rationalism of the individual perception in order to see, to understand and to be aware of how physical setting process influences the improvement of Pramudya Wardani street space. This research process begins with observation of the existing condition of street space. Pramudya Wardani based on the theory of Livable Street (Jacob, 1963), and principle of setting activities (Gehl, 2001). Those standards and criteria used to find the factors that can improve the quality of Pramudya Wardani street space.

Abstrak: Dalam Rencana Kawasan Strategi Nasional (KSN) Borobudur tahun 2007, Koridor Pramudya Wardani merupakan zona pengembangan perdagangan dimana segala aktivitas dan kegiatan komersial ditempatkan di area ini. Sebagai area penyangga kawasan Candi Borobudur, area ini akan mereduksi kegiatan yang menimbulkan dampak negatif bagi pelestarian kawasan Candi Borobudur. Namun seiring dengan proses perkembangannya koridor ini kurang berkembang dari segi fisik maupun aktivitasnya. Oleh karena itu diperlukan suatu penelitian untuk mendapatkan gambaran sejauh mana pengaruh setting fisik terhadap setting aktivitas, faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi peningkatan kualitas fisik, dan Urban Design Guideline pembentuk ruang jalan yang sesuai peruntukan kawasan. Kualitas fisik ruang jalan adalah elemen “setting” fisik yang mendukung ruang publik sehingga mampu merangsang masyarakat untuk datang dan beraktivitas di ruang jalan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode rasionalistik kualitatif, yaitu suatu metode penelitian yang berfokus pada rasionalisme, yaitu persepsi individu dalam usaha melihat, memahami dan menyadari bagaimana pengaruh “setting” fisik terhadap “setting” aktivitas dalam meningkatkan kualitas ruang jalan Pramudya Wardani. Penelitian ini diawali dengan melakukan observasi atau pengamatan kondisi eksisting ruang jalan Pramudya Wardani berdasarkan landasan teori Livable Street (Jacob, 1963) dan prinsip “setting” aktivitas (Gehl, 2001). Standar dan kriteria tersebut digunakan untuk melihat faktor-faktor yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas ruang jalan Pramudya Wardani.
