The development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in higher education requires students not only to have business technical skills, but also leadership capacity that is able to encourage business performance in a sustainable manner. This study aims to analyze the role of entrepreneurial leadership as a mediating variable in the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and individual creativity on venture performance in startup students of Ciputra University Surabaya. A quantitative approach was used with a survey method of students who actively manage startups based on entrepreneurial projects. The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test the direct and indirect relationships between variables. The results of the study show that entrepreneurial self-efficacy and individual creativity have a positive effect on entrepreneurial leadership. Furthermore, entrepreneurial leadership has been proven to have a significant effect on venture performance. The findings also confirm that entrepreneurial leadership significantly mediates the influence of individual creativity on venture performance, but not entrepreneurial self-efficacy on venture performance. This research confirms that individual self-confidence and creativity are not enough to improve business performance without entrepreneurial leadership that is able to direct vision, manage resources, and encourage team collaboration. Practically, the results of this study provide implications for the development of entrepreneurship curriculum and student startup coaching to further emphasize strengthening entrepreneurial leadership competencies as a key factor in improving business performance.
Keywords: entrepreneurial leadership; entrepreneurial self-efficacy; individual creativity; venture performance.
