Abstract

This study examines the effect of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices on Employee Environmental Awareness (EEA) and Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) at Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC), Pakistan. Data collected from 73 employees via structured questionnaires was analyzed using quantitative, cross-sectional design. Scales for GHRM and EEA showed acceptable reliability, whereas PEB showed borderline consistency. Linear regression revealed GHRM significantly predicted EEA and PEB, while EEA significantly predicted PEB (). Mediation testing indicated EEA had a partial, statistically non-significant indirect effect between GHRM and PEB. Thus, GHRM influences behavior primarily through direct pathways rather than exclusively through awareness. Aligned with the Ability-Motivation-Opportunity framework, GHRM practices—specifically training and recognition—build capability and motivation for sustainability. This study provides context-specific evidence from Pakistan's rarely examined coal energy sector and offers practical guidance for organizations using HR practices to foster environmental responsibility.
