GenAI Policy
IJIS recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as large language models, are increasingly used in academic work. The use of such tools must be transparent, responsible, and subject to human accountability.
For authors.
- GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors, because they cannot take responsibility for the work, give consent, or hold copyright.
- Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all content in their manuscript, including any content produced or assisted by GenAI tools. Authors must verify all AI-generated text, citations, data, and code.
- Any use of GenAI tools in the preparation of the manuscript, including for writing, data analysis, image generation, or translation, must be disclosed in a Generative AI Use Declaration submitted with the manuscript, stating the tool name, version, purpose of use, and extent of use.
- Basic tools for grammar, spelling, and language editing do not need to be declared.
- GenAI must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, results, images, or references.
For reviewers and editors. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts or review reports to publicly available GenAI tools, as this may breach the confidentiality of the authors' work. Reviewers remain personally responsible for the content of their reviews.
Undisclosed or inappropriate use of GenAI may result in rejection of the manuscript or, if discovered after publication, correction or retraction of the article.
